Celebrating the Holidays at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Posted on November 29, 2019November 29, 2019 by Theme Park Anthropologist

It’s about time! Disney’s Animal Kingdom was long overdue for some holiday overlays. And this year, Santa delivered the goods. Here is a little peek at what you’ll find during the holidays at Animal Kingdom.

Festival of Lights

One of my favorite spots is right in front of the UP! A Great Bird Adventure marquee in Asia. You’ll find lots of colorful lanterns hanging about for Diwali. I love the bright bold colors and could have stood there forever admiring them.

A Kitschy Roadside Attraction Christmas

DinoLand USA is decorated with all the tackiest decorations you would find at a roadside attraction…and I LOVE IT!!! You’ll find dinosaurs sporting Santa hats and lots of colorful blinking lights. Donald, Daisy, Scrooge, and Launchpad also get in on the festive cheer at their meet and greets.

The Puppet Menagerie

Over in Discovery Island, you’ll find some festive animal-inspired puppets and decorations. The puppet performs walk through the area and lets you get up close to them. Here, you’ll find live music like Christmas carols performed on the steel drums. The entire land stays in a fresh blue and white color winter wonderland scheme. It looks stunning at night and you have a great view of the Tree of Life’s holiday projection; which stays in the theme of animals in a wintery wonderland.

Folk Arts Hung with Care

While wandering through Africa, make sure to take a close look at the garlands strung up throughout the land. You’ll notice a lot of interesting handcrafted African folk art items.

The Lost and Found

There’s not a whole lot to see in Pandora, but I enjoyed seeing how found objects were used to bring some holiday spirit to their new home planet.

The Barbecue Jackfruit Burger at Regal Eagle Smoke The Barbecue Jackfruit Burger at Regal Eagle Smokehouse is served on Texas toast with coleslaw, lettuce, and tomato. The jackfruit has a slight seasoning to it, but the overall flavor of this burger was a bit bland. However, there are several selections of barbecue sauce and the blank canvas of the burger allows you to doctor it up to your liking. #regaleaglesmokehouse #vegan #vegetarian #vegantravel #vegetariantravel #plantbased #plantpowered #veganfood #vegandisney #vegetariandisney #veganatdisneyworld #vegetariandisneyworld #vegandisneyfood #vegetariandisneyfood #epcot #epcotfood #veganbbq #bbqjackfruit

Not only is the Tokyo Sunset gorgeous to look at and photograph, but it also tastes amazing! The Tokyo Sunset cocktail includes sweet flavors of peach, pineapple, and banana. It’s a perfect dessert drink and definitely will put you in a summer state of mind. #epcot #epcotdrinkingaroundtheworld #epcotdrinks #disneyworld #disneydrinks #japanpavilion #tokyosunset

However, vegetarian items are no longer marked. Vegetarians will need to check ingredient lists at the booth for items they suspect might be vegetarian friendly. It comes with falafels, hummus, olives, tabbouleh, couscous salad, lentil salad, and pita bread. This is great to share. The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts has s The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts has slim pickings for vegetarians and vegans. Aside from the plant-based bratwurst in the Refreshment Outpost, vegetarians and vegans can also try the vegetable gyoza in Japan. The vegetable gyoza comes with two dumplings filled with veggies and edamame. It’s served with truffle mashed potatoes, mushrooms, pepper strings, and teriyaki sauce. This option is vegetarian as is but can be made vegan by ordering it without mashed potatoes. Overall, this is a solid option. It has a nice flavor but not too adventurous for the more timid foodies. The dumplings were extra crispy and held together well from my generous soy sauce dipping. Wasabi would have gone great with them as well. I enjoyed the added flavor of the pepper strings and wished there were more. It’s worth a try if you happen to find yourself strolling through Japan. #artfulepcot #epcotfestivalofthearts #disneyworld #epcot #vegetarian #vegetariandisney
Move over violet lemonade! There’s another vibra Move over violet lemonade! There’s another vibrant violet beverage that’s available all year long at EPCOT. The Garden House in the Japan pavilion offers a Violet Sake, and it tastes as good as it looks. This cocktail has a nice balance of sweet and tart from pear and lime juice. It’s a refreshing cocktail to sip while sitting in the Japanese garden area listening to the Taiko Drummers. This is a must-try and I will be getting it again. #epcot #epcotdrinkingaroundtheworld #epcotdrinks #japanpavilion #violetsake #wdw #disneyworld #disneydrinks #disneyforadults #wdwap
These are the plant-based tacos 🌮at Tiffins. Wh These are the plant-based tacos 🌮at Tiffins. While I appreciate the added plant-based options, I found this to be rather bland. The tacos at The Wave were much better. In addition, we had the WORST service. Our server was incredibly rude and unhelpful. When we asked if a dessert was vegetarian, he quickly said yes before I could finish my question. The dessert came out with gelatin. I don’t think I’ll be back here anytime soon. Definitely not worth the price. #tiffinsanimalkingdom #tiffins #plantbased #plantbaseddisney #vegandisneyworld #vegetariandisneyworld #vegandisneyfood #vegetariandisneyfood #vegandisney #vegetariandisney #disneysanimalkingdom
Have you ever taken a ride on Spaceship Earth and Have you ever taken a ride on Spaceship Earth and wished there was a drink that tastes like Rome burning? If so, there’s a perfect drink for you over at Choza de Margarita in the Mexico pavilion. The Smoky Pineapple Margarita comes with Mezcal Ilegal Blanco, pineapple-ginger juice, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, and tajin chile-lime powdered rim. This drink is definitely smoky! While I enjoyed the unique flavor combinations of the fruit, smoke, and spice, I’m not sure this is a drink I would order again. The novelty of the flavors wore off about half-way through the drink. However, it’s definitely worth a try if you’re feeling a little adventurous. #epcot #epcotdrinkingaroundtheworld #epcotcenter #epcotmexico #chozademargarita #smokypineapplemargarita #disneyforadults #wdw #disneyworld #disneydrinks #disneylife
