Celebrating the Holidays at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Posted on November 29, 2019November 29, 2019 by Theme Park Anthropologist

It’s about time! Disney’s Animal Kingdom was long overdue for some holiday overlays. And this year, Santa delivered the goods. Here is a little peek at what you’ll find during the holidays at Animal Kingdom.

Festival of Lights

One of my favorite spots is right in front of the UP! A Great Bird Adventure marquee in Asia. You’ll find lots of colorful lanterns hanging about for Diwali. I love the bright bold colors and could have stood there forever admiring them.

A Kitschy Roadside Attraction Christmas

DinoLand USA is decorated with all the tackiest decorations you would find at a roadside attraction…and I LOVE IT!!! You’ll find dinosaurs sporting Santa hats and lots of colorful blinking lights. Donald, Daisy, Scrooge, and Launchpad also get in on the festive cheer at their meet and greets.

The Puppet Menagerie

Over in Discovery Island, you’ll find some festive animal-inspired puppets and decorations. The puppet performs walk through the area and lets you get up close to them. Here, you’ll find live music like Christmas carols performed on the steel drums. The entire land stays in a fresh blue and white color winter wonderland scheme. It looks stunning at night and you have a great view of the Tree of Life’s holiday projection; which stays in the theme of animals in a wintery wonderland.

Folk Arts Hung with Care

While wandering through Africa, make sure to take a close look at the garlands strung up throughout the land. You’ll notice a lot of interesting handcrafted African folk art items.

The Lost and Found

There’s not a whole lot to see in Pandora, but I enjoyed seeing how found objects were used to bring some holiday spirit to their new home planet.
