So, I know that vegetarians have a reputation for eating healthy food. For the most part, I do prefer eating something with lots of greens, but there are times when I start craving something deep fried like anyone else. These foods are a splurge for me and I can’t think of a more appropriate place to splurge than the Magic Kingdom…where calories don’t count.
I recently discovered that the Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland has two interesting vegetarian “junk food” items. They currently serve spicy deep fried cauliflower with a garlic ranch sauce and jalapeno poppers with a “GOO” sauce.
The jalapeno poppers were decently sized and stuffed with creamy nacho cheese. They are your standard jalapeno poppers. It is the “GOO” sauce that makes this one a little different. The “GOO” is a super sweet raspberry dipping sauce. I haven’t decided if I really like or really hate the flavor combination of the spicy poppers and the sweet sauce. It is a unique flavor that I would recommend to anyone who wants to be a little adventurous in their snack selection.
The other vegetarian selection at the Golden Oak Outpost, which I LOVE, is a spicy cauliflower item. Even though it’s a vegetable, there is nothing healthy about this deep fried goodness. In fact, it barely tastes like cauliflower. I am fairly certain that most non-vegetarians would enjoy this item too. This snack has quite a spicy kick to it that doesn’t hit you right away. I enjoy spicy food so this isn’t an issue for me, but if spicy isn’t your thing then you should probably avoid this one. I, however, will be returning often for this snack.
