Disney+ launch date is just around the corner. I am excited for some of the new entertainment, but also looking forward to rewatching shows from my childhood. Here are the shows that get me excited when I think about watching them again. What are you excited to re-watch?
Disney Afternoon
I used to love that time after school, but before dinner when I could watch the adventurous tales of all the Disney Afternoon cartoons like DuckTales, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Adventures of the Gummi Bears and Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers while eating a super unhealthy snack like DunkAroos. Since DunkAroos are no more, I’ll just have to get a tub of frosting to dip my cookies into while I binge watch some of my childhood favorites and take an adventurous trip down memory lane.
The DuckTales reboot did such a great job with its Darkwing Duck reveal that I can’t wait to re-watch episodes of Darkwing Duck and the original DuckTales. The reboot has also made a couple of references to other Disney Afternoon shows that I am eagerly waiting to re-watch, mainly TaleSpin and Adventures of the Gummi Bears. Here’s a brief overview of the two shows.
TaleSpin
TaleSpin is loosely based off of characters from The Jungle Book. The tale follows, Baloo, a lazy pilot and his young sidekick, Kit, on some wild adventures. The mysterious setting of Cape Suzette filled me with a desire for adventure in elsewhen places that didn’t really exist.
Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears
Forget House Stark of Winterfell! I’d rather follow the adventures of House Gummi of Glen. The story takes place in a magical medieval Kingdom of Dunwyn. Most of the Gummis have fled due to the dangers of the humans. A small group was left to protect and prepare the colony when it is safe for the Gummi refugees to return. They’ve remain hidden as well as hidden their magical powers from the Gummiberry juice (I love the reference to the juice in the DuckTales reboot). Some humans and ogres are aware of the Gummi Bears. Some are friends and foes.
Aside from the Disney Afternoon, I hope these two shows from my preschool days will be added to Disney+ as well…
Fraggle Rock
While Fraggle Rock technically isn’t a Disney original, it was eventually syndicated on the Disney Channel. This Jim Henson / HBO production took me to a place that really didn’t exist, but I wish that it did. From the moment I heard that very catchy theme song, I would get super excited to go down to Fraggle Rock. Fraggle Rock was a place where different species tried to live together as the Fraggles got into some silly hijinks. I think the message of getting along with others who are different from ourselves never goes out of style.
Mousercise
As a preschooler, I remember getting up in the morning so I could do my workout with Mickey and Goofy. It was a fun way to become self-motivated in a physical activity and helped me make exercise fun rather than the chore that it has become in adulthood. To be completely honest… I would TOTALLY workout with Mickey and Goofy again if this is added to Disney+. I just need to find some awesome retro leg warmers and headbands to rock. I probably will need a good workout after eating all those cookies and frosting from my Disney Afternoon binge.
