Have you ever wandered through Fantasyland and smelled that cheap, yet somehow satisfying, smell of “Chuck E. Cheese” style pizza wafting from Pinocchio Village Haus and wished you could grab a vegan slice? In the heart of Fantasyland, a longtime fantasy for vegans and dairy sensitive guests has come true. You can order vegan cheese pizza in the Magic Kingdom!
There’s something about being in the Magic Kingdom that transports you back to childhood. This transportation is as much a journey of the senses. Disney is very aware of the nostalgia of smell as evident by the many “smellitzers” throughout its parks. When I picked up my order, the smell rising from the pizza transported me to carefree games of Skee-Ball and childhood trips to the roller skating rink.
This is not a gourmet pizza by any stretch of the imagination. I mean…it’s served in a quick-service restaurant with cartoon characters painted on the walls. My expectations were not high. I braced myself to be disgusted and disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised. The generously sized vegan pizza has a thin, crispy crust that’s topped with sweet tomato sauce, a generous amount of vegan mozzarella and parmesan. Some vegan cheese leaves a funky aftertaste. It was not the case here. I think the crumbly parmesan gave it just the right texture and saltiness. I would definitely order this yummy slice of nostalgia again.
I do have one suggestion or request for Disney. Is there a way we can bottle up this smell and create a cheap pizza “smellitzer” for Alien Swirling Saucers? It really is missing that Pizza Planet touch.
