Lesson Plan: Build Your Own Roller Coaster

Posted on April 14, 2020April 14, 2020 by Theme Park Anthropologist

Disney Blog just released a STEM lesson plan and activity about how to build your own roller coaster. I used a similar activity with students in my engineering camps. However, I also wanted them to think about how “theme” is incorporated in the ride. We looked at videos of various roller coasters and discussed how each one achieved a different theme. I then asked them to come up with their own theme for their coaster and explain how they would integrate it into their design. This is a great activity to do with students. They learn about the scientific method while playing with toys!

Here is the link to the lesson plan. Disney Blog also has a video about engineering the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios.
