A new plant-based Italian sausage sandwich recently debuted at the much despised PizzeRizzo. I’ve never actually eaten here but have heard many complaints about it being the worst quick service on Disney property. I did eat here when it was Pizza Planet and I wasn’t impressed with the pizza. On the day we visited Hollywood Studios, all of our usual eating spots were packed so we decided it was an excuse to try the new plant-based sausage at PizzeRizzo.
Upon entering the quick service restaurant, I was a little underwhelmed with the Muppet theming in the ordering area and overwhelmed by the smell of cheap pizza. PizzeRizzo was clean and we were able to order our food without a wait. Our food came out almost immediately. With our food in hand, we made our way upstairs to see if there were more Muppet touches up there. The upstairs area had only a few other families dining in the area. It was a nice quiet place and gave us a break from the crowds.
PizzeRizzo has a classic Italian deli atmosphere. The air is filled with the sounds of Dean Martin and other “Rat Pack” artists, which is befitting for a Rizzo the Rat themed eatery. I enjoyed the numerous booth seating options and the red checkered “tablecloth” print on the tables. Along the walls were tiny touches of the Muppets. Off to the side was a banquet-style room where kiddos can find some hula hoops and a dance floor. Overall, I thought the space was cute but I would have liked to see a stronger Muppets presence.
Next, let’s talk about the food. The plant-based Italian sausage came with marinara sauce and peppers served on a hoagie roll and it was served with a side salad with vegan ranch dressing. The Italian sausage used is the same one served at Casey’s Corner and now Flame Tree Barbecue. The Italian sausage found its perfect home at PizzeRizzo. It paired well with the peppers and tomato sauce. My only complaint was that it could have used some more sauce. The salad was unremarkable. It’s just a cup of lettuce. Despite these minor complaints, I enjoyed this sandwich and would return.
Overall, my experience at PizzeRizzo was surprisingly pleasant.
