The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has been gone for a few years. Yet, I still miss them. It was part of our family tradition to go to Hollywood Studios at least two or three times to see these luminescent lights. Even my most curmudgeon relatives were struck with awe and holiday cheer by the Osborne Light display. There was something magical about standing in the middle of the wintery wonderland that the Streets of America became during the holiday season.
Hollywood Studios has created plenty of innovative holiday offerings over the past couple ofyears. I enjoy the vintage decorations and music. Jingle Bell Jingle Bam is interesting, but the projection shows just don’t seem to be enough to get me into the holiday spirit. I liked getting up close and looking at all the details that went into creating the Osborne lights. I would spend at least an hour admiring that festive space. I can’t do this with the projection shows. It lacks a certain kind of intimacy and transportive quality that the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights had. I’ve been searching for a Christmas lights tradition to replace the Osborne lights and the Christmas lights at the Florida Botanical Gardens seems to fit the bill.
The Florida Botanical Gardens is located in Largo (about two hours west of Disney World). The gardens do an amazing job creating unique holiday lighting to reflect the gardens and their wildlife. The nature trails have neat critters to find like owls, woodpeckers, and raccoons. It’s fun to get lost wandering this tropical winter wonderland! The Florida Botanical Gardens also provides live entertainment and meetings with Santa. They ask for a $5 donation to partake in the festivities.
