Dairy-free Options at Ample Hills Creamery

Posted on October 28, 2018October 28, 2018 by Theme Park Anthropologist

Having a dairy allergy at Disney World isn’t fun when there are so many tasty frozen treats to try. Despite all the tempting dairy frozen treats, park goers with a dairy allergy can still find refreshing treats to cool off in the hot Florida sun (Dole Whip anyone?).  At a recent visit to Epcot, we planned to get dessert in one of the world showcase pavilions after lunch.  Unfortunately, Epcot was so crowded we could barely navigate through the park. Neither of us wanted to wait in a ridiculously long line for a frozen treat.  We decided to walk over to the Boardwalk for a much needed break from the crowds and rowdy festival goers.

That’s how we found ourselves in Ample Hills Creamery.  Ample Hills Creamery is known for some unique ice cream flavors like Malty Salty Pretzel Punch and Nonna D’s Oatmeal Lace ice cream. The decor is adorable! The bright cheerful colors made me feel like I was in a children’s storybook. On the day I visited, there were two dairy-free sorbet options, Shirley Temple and Lemon Sky. Shirley Temple is a cherry and lemon-lime flavor. The description states there is ginger in it as well, but I couldn’t taste it. Overall, it was sweet but not too sweet. Lemon Sky is a simple lemon sorbet. It had a consistency of Italian ice. I liked the tart flavor and found this super refreshing. Ample Hills did not have Lemon Sky listed on their official menu so it might not be available for much longer. I enjoyed the sorbets we tried and would go back if I was at the Boardwalk. However with all of the other options available, I wouldn’t say that this is a “must try” for people with a dairy allergy. What are some of your favorite dairy-free frozen treats at Disney World?
