Banana Cabana is an open air bar and grill located at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Fuentes del Morro pool area. The bar has a laid back feel and the decor was similar to the rest of the resort with splashes of orange, blue and yellow. I loved the steel drums that were turned into a light fixtures. It was a shady spot to rest from the hot Florida sun.
To start, a non-alcoholic drink caught my attention, Tropical Paradise. Tropical Paradise is a fruity blend of pineapple, lime and coconut juice sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg. I used to have a Caribbean restaurant not far from my house that served a Caribbean spiced iced tea. It was heavy on the spice and delicious! Since the restaurant closed, I have been searching for a comparable drink and will order just about anything that seems like it could come close. Most of the drinks that I have tried have been a bit timid with the spice, but this juice mix had generous amounts of cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s almost as good as the Caribbean iced tea that I used to get, and the flavors went amazingly well the spicy plant-based sandwich.
The Plant-based Jerk Sandwich comes with a patty served on toasted ciabatta with grilled pineapple, pickled onions, lettuce, tomato and roasted chili-vegan mayonnaise. It’s served with your choice of french fries, sweet potato fries or slaw. I chose sweet potato fries, but they brought out regular fries. The server was super nice and corrected it immediately.
I thought the sandwich was delicious. There was actually some heat in the chili vegan mayo, which is surprising for Disney. I liked the pickled onions. It added a subtle tanginess without being as overpowering as raw onions would be on the sandwich. The grilled pineapple also added a sweet flavor. The patty was soft and didn’t have too strong of a flavor on its own. This worked out well and all the flavors balanced each other off nicely. The bread wasn’t too soggy or hard.
Once I got my sweet potato fries, I enjoyed these as well. They were regular sweet potato fries, but that’s fine with me. Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch. Service was fast and friendly and it was easy to find a table. Banana Cabana offered a nice place to cool off and get a tasty meal.
