The dread of the kids’ menu is something that almost every vegetarian and vegan parent has experienced. These parents raise their kids to savor the greens on their plate. In return, these kiddos become fearless and adventuress in their willingness to try new healthy options. Unfortunately, this isn’t reflected very often in the options available to vegetarian and vegan children. Disney World quick service locations tend to offer pizza, pasta, and sandwiches for vegetarian children. Vegan children are usually given peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a sole option. This leaves parents with the dilemma of ordering an adult sized item for their kids, packing their meals or letting them live on pizza, pasta and sandwiches. Pizza and pasta are two of my family’s favorite foods, but I wouldn’t want my child to ONLY eat that if I were visiting Disney for a week. I decided to go in search for some healthy vegetarian and vegan kids’ quick service options. Here is what I found.
Tofu Bowl, Satu’li Canteen (Animal Kingdom)
Over in Pandora, Satu’li Canteen offers a small tofu bowl. It can be ordered with romaine and kale or rice and beans. A drink is also included in this option. I love seeing tofu as an option for kids! I really hope more tofu meals become available for the little ones.
Veggie and Rice Bowl, Pecos Bill (Magic Kingdom)
Pecos Bill over in Frontierland has a veggie and rice bowl option. This might be the most filling options since kids can also take advantage of the toppings bar as well. In addition to the bowl and toppings bar, the meal comes with healthy sides like applesauce and a mandarin.
Salad, Columbia Harbor House (Magic Kingdom)
The salad at Columbia Harbor House is listed as a chicken salad, but it can be made vegetarian and vegan by ordering it without chicken. This also comes with some healthy sides as well.
Even though I didn’t find too many options, I am hopeful that their mere existence might signal more healthy kids options in the future. I love that Disney is recognizing and accommodating vegetarian and vegan families by providing more options and even guide maps to help find them.
What are your thoughts? Have you found any great healthy kids’ quick service meals on Disney property?
