Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite places to find some yummy vegan and vegetarian food for both meals and snacks. The park has some unique quick service meal options available if you want something other than the standard theme park fare of pizza and veggie burgers. Though, those options are available at Pizzafari and Restaurantosaurus if that’s your thing. Here is a list of my favorite places to get quick service vegan and vegetarian meals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom…
Satu’li Canteen
Satu’li Canteen is located in the new Pandora land. This might be one of the most unusual quick service options on Disney property. The indoor space is amazing and I love the juxtaposition of the warm weaving creations hanging from the ceiling and the cold, sterile futuristic ordering area. It offers a nice place to cool off while you eat. Here, you can build your own tofu bowl! I absolutely love the crispy tofu in these bowls. You start by choosing your base and then sauce. I think this is a great option for repeat guests. You can change up your order so it is a different dish each time. This option can be vegan and vegetarian based on what you choose. Check with a cast member if you are uncertain about the ingredients.
Harambe Market
Harambe Market is an open, outdoor quick service. It’s a great place to go when the weather is pleasant. The theming here is amazing and I would recommend taking your time to look at all the detail that went into creating the Harambe Market. Keep your eyes peeled for hidden Mickeys too. Harambe Market offers a vegetarian roasted vegetable dish served over rice and topped with a yogurt sauce. I really enjoy the spices in this one. It’s not spicy, but spiced. The vegetables are cooked perfectly and the portion is enough to satisfy two people. This might be veganizable if ordered without the yogurt, but I would check with a cast member to make sure none of the vegetables and rice are cooked with butter.
Yak and Yeti Local Cafe
The vegan option at the Yak and Yeti Local Cafe is a tikka masala dish. I think tikka masala is good. Unfortunately the day I tried it, it was hot and humid and I would not suggest ordering it on a hot day. Like the Harambe Market, Yak and Yeti Local Cafe is an outdoor eatery. There is seating in the shade, but on a Florida summer day, it doesn’t provide that much cooling. The tikka masala is a really spicy with a stew consistency served over rice. Which I would love if I were in the comfort of an air conditioned dining space with access to plenty of water refills. On a chilly day (that isn’t often in Florida), this would be a great selection to warm you up.
Have you tried any of these dishes? Which one is your favorite?
