Beaches and Cream is a nostalgic little “soda” shop located at the Disney Beach Club Resort (walking distance from EPCOT). Here, you’ll find the world famous “Kitchen Sink.” This massive $35 ice cream sundae comes with…a WHOLE can of whip cream. On my most recent visit, I decided to try two of the plant-based options on the menu, the Plant-based Burger and Chili and Cheese Tots.
Let’s start with the Plant-based Burger. At a whopping $17, I had high hopes for this burger. This burger came with lettuce, tomato, caramelized balsamic onion jam, and an herb-y vegan mayo in between a multigrain bun. This wasn’t a bad option. It wasn’t great either. There was something about the flavors of the mayo and jam that just didn’t blend well together. The jam was too sweet and the herb mixture in the mayo was too strong. It was lacking a harmonious balance between the two. The burger might have been better with one rather than both. The other problem was that the jam and mayo made the bun super slippery, and everything slid out as soon as I tried to take a bite out of it.
For my side, I was given the option of watermelon or fries. One does not go to Beaches and Cream to make healthy life choices. So, naturally, I chose fries. I have to say that these fries were AMAZING! These were not the standard theme park fries. These thick fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy clouds on the inside. I could have made a meal from the fries alone.
Next, I tried the Plant-based Chili Cheese Tots. If you’ve had the Totchos at Woody’s Lunchbox in Hollywood studios, these are very similar (minus the Fritos). Like the fries, the tots were cooked to the same crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside perfection. It was topped with vegan chili, cheese and green onions. At $9, this was a great buy. It was filling and flavorful. I would definitely order this again.
Overall, Beaches and Cream has a fun and festive atmosphere. The cast members are entertaining and energetic. I would definitely eat here again, but I would probably skip the burger and save the room for dessert next time.
