Barbecue is my favorite condiment and I was super excited to try the new plant-based barbecue option on Walt Disney World property. I recently made my way over to the Regal Eagle Smokehouse at EPCOT to try the new plant-based Barbecue Jackfruit Burger. While there, I also tried some of the sides too.
The Barbecue Jackfruit Burger is served on Texas toast with coleslaw, lettuce, and tomato. The jackfruit has a slight seasoning to it, but the overall flavor of this burger was a bit bland. However, there are several selections of barbecue sauce and the blank canvas of the burger allows you to doctor it up to your liking.
For my sides, I tried the pickles, seasoned fries, and macaroni and cheese. Let’s start with the “pickles.” The only thing I might love more than barbecue sauce on a burger is a decent helping of pickles. The pickles at Regal Eagle Smokehouse don’t taste like they fermented long enough to be called pickles. They taste more like a cucumber salad. This isn’t bad. It’s just misleading when you’re hoping for pickles.
The fries had a nice flavor to them and were great for dipping into the various sauces. They’re like a tamer version of Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries at Animal Kingdom. Lastly, I tried the macaroni and cheese. This was super creamy and reminded me of a Stouffer’s macaroni and cheese. The only thing that was missing was a little texture. Breadcrumbs would have helped, and I believed this was advertised to have breadcrumbs.
One thing I have to say about the sides is that they were much smaller than what I was expecting for $5 each. I think this is a great spot for people who aren’t adventurous eaters. Regal Eagle Smokehouse won’t be my new go-to restaurant, but I like that there are some solid vegetarian and vegan options here. The atmosphere is cute and I like the subtle salute to the Muppets.
